The Coba ruins, Mayan village and Monkey Reserve
Experience traditional Mayan culture and full jungle immersion with the Coba & Monkey Reserve Tour
What to expect
Experience traditional Mayan culture and full jungle immersion with the Coba & Monkey Reserve Tour. On this trip, you will be taken off the beaten path to connect with mother nature and learn about the ancient civilization of Coba.
Start the day with a unique shaman ceremony where you’ll be purified with copal, drink balché, and chant to the four winds. After the ceremony, go at your own pace and bike ride through the impressive Mayan empire of Coba, where you’ll see temples, ruins, ancient ball game courts, and much more.
Next up, explore the Natural Reserve of Punta Laguna to spot native wild animals like monkeys, alligators, exotic birds, and maybe even a jaguar. You also have the option to kayak and zipline across the lagoon and take a swim in the refreshing waters of a nearby cenote. Lastly, delight your taste buds with a delicious ‘farm to table’ style lunch hosted by a Mayan family. Here you will taste only the most traditional and authentic Mayan meals and flavors, with ingredients grown from their own garden. In an intimate and friendly environment, there’s no better way to feel like a local and understand the Mayan way of living.

Tour highlights
Intriguing Causeways
The ancient ruins of Coba are unparalleled, for good reason. Boasting the largest network of stone causeways (white roads) of the ancient Mayan world, here you can explore the jungle, see Mayan hieroglyphic monuments, or climb some of the ancient ruins, just like Indiana Jones.
Wild nature
From wild animals to lush greenery and turquoise blue waters, Punta Laguna is a slice of heaven right in the Riviera Maya. The natural reserve is home to more than 500 spider and howler monkeys, as well as other intriguing wildlife. With an area spanning over 5,200 hectares, how many monkeys do you think you can spot?
Preserving Mayan Traditions
You may be surprised to learn that in Punta Laguna, there is a small Mayan village living in the jungle. With their ancient and truly unique Mayan wisdom, protecting their own traditions, as well as the flora and fauna are a high priority. With your visit, you are able to contribute not only to preserve the natural treasures of the area, but also support the economy of this small Mayan community.
What People Are Saying
“Biked around the Mayan Ruins in Coba and heard the stories about the Mayan Temples. We then went to a Mayan community where Enrique and his family cooked us their own farm grown food that was so good.”
— Scott R, Trip Advisor Review
“We saw monkeys. Got blessed by the Shaman before getting lowered into a Cenote that was the best by far truly something else. Then Kayaked and ziplined over the lagoon.”
