Tour highlights

World heritage

Thanks to its unique biodiversity and fascinating Mayan Culture, In 1987 Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve was declared a World Heritage Property by UNESCO. Sian Ka’an is also part of UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) program, which aims to improve the relationship between people and their environment.

Size matters

The Biosphere is truly enormous, covering 652,000 hectares, or 1.3 million acres. At this size, it is the largest Biosphere Reserve in the Mexican Caribbean, and the largest coastal protected area in Mexico. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef is the second largest barrier reef in the world, measuring just over 1,300 kilometres.

Healthy ecosystem

The ecosystem in Sian Ka’an is truly like no other in the world. The area is home to 379 species of bird, 115 species of mammals, 90 species of native bees, 276 species of crustaceans , 318 species of butterflies, and more than 500 species of fish.

What People Are Saying

“This was the most magical experience ever! We started by taking a boat through the mangrove trees. Then we got out and did a lazy river crawl. We then took the boat to secret beach, saw manatees and went on a crocodile sighting expedition. It was the best tour ever.”

— Daisy H, Trip Advisor Review

“Alina was such an excellent tour guide. We floated down the river with her and our group and we had one of the best times I’ve ever had. So fantastic and so knowledgeable..”
